Chapter 05: Circular Motion
This is a fifth chapter of the book Physics 11 published by Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, Lahore, Pakistan.
After studying this chapter the students will be able to:
- Describe angular motion.
- Define angular displacement, angular velocity and angular acceleration.
- Define radiant and convert an angle from radian measure to degree and vice versa.
- Use the equation $s=r \theta$ and $v=r \omega $.
- Describe qualitatively motion in the curved path due to perpendicular force and understand the centripetal acceleration in the case of uniform motion in a circle.
- Derive the equation $a_c=r \omega^2 = v^2/r$ and $F_c=m\omega^2 r=m v^2/r$.
- Understand and describe moment of inertia of a body.
- Understand the concept of angular momentum.
- Describe examples of conservation of angular momentum.
- Understand and express rotational kinetic energy of a disc and a hoop on an inclined plane.
- Describe the motion of artificial satellites.
- Understand that the objects in satellites appear to be weightless.
- Understand how and why artificial gravity is produced.
- Calculate the radius of geo-stationary orbits and orbital velocity of satellites.
- Describe Newton's and Einstein's views of gravitation.
